Creative, dedicated people building and affirming abilities to reach dreams

Karen Samter - Clinical Supervisor

Syringa Team
After a 25 year career of raising and home schooling her four children, I began work as a Developmental Specialist and did Intensive Behavior Intervention for Partnerships for Inclusion in 2005, joining Syringa Family Partnership in 2010. I am currently a Clinical Supervisor in Bonners Ferry. I enjoy the culture of the rural, close-knit community.

I graduated with a degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado and taught school in a self-contained classroom in Raton, New Mexico. My husband and I settled in Idaho to raise our children in 1978.

I am passionate about my work with children. Recently a parent said that because of our work, for the first time in her life she is enjoying her children. This is what makes my life and my work worth it!

I have training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), The Listening Program, communication devices, and visual supports. I provide training and support to our staff and parents, focusing on creative and effective techniques to prevent and manage challenging behaviors. I enjoy working with siblings of our clients who experience the unique challenges of living with a person with a disability.

I am an experienced piano teacher, specializing in teaching children with learning challenges. I enjoy my family and grandchildren, gardening, contra dancing, and making quilts.
